Senator Bernie Sanders on the Dire State of Our Economy

Banana Republic sells nice clothes. "Clothes make the poor invisible. America has the best dressed poverty in the world." - Michael Harrington

Coincidence? I think not

  1. Preach Senator. You gotta love an old guy getting pissed off about something and speaking his mind. I agree with just about everything he says, except the part about American jobs getting imported to China. Consumers don't pay higher prices so they can see the "Made in America" tag, they go to Target and buy the cheapest shit they can because they're getting pwned by the man and they can't a afford the higher grade stuff. China's lax state regulatory measures, cheap labor and vibrant trade infrastructure make it an ideal ground for production of consumer goods, what I expect old Bern-dog was out hunting for recently. I sort of expect he wasn't buying large-scale industrial goods or agricultural materials for the grandchildren. I think it's obvious that we need to diversify our trade and specialize in what we're good at: higher grade consumer goods (think Germany without the ridiculous EU wide agricultural stipends) and our service sector. Protectionism is bad for the economy, but so is favoring China and not developing trade with South and Central America and other developing regions that are not so god damn mischievous. More to come on that issue soon...
